月夜の晩に、ボタンが一つ
波打際に、落ちていた。

At Moonlit Night,
I found a single Button on the Beach.

それを拾って、役立てようと
僕は思ったわけでもないが
なぜだかそれを捨てるに忍びず
僕はそれを、袂（たもと）に入れた。

I　wouldn't make good use of it.
I couldn't help picking up A Button, and
I kept back it in my Inside-Pocket.

月夜の晩に、ボタンが一つ、
波打際に落ちていた。

At Moonlit Night,
I found a single Button on the Beach.

それを拾って、役立てようと
僕は思ったわけでもないが
月に向かってそれは抛（はう）れず
浪に向かってそれは抛れず
僕はそれを、袂にいれた。

I wouldn't make good use of it.
I couldn't throw it over the Moon, much less
throw it across the Waves.
I kept back it in my Inside-Pocket.

月夜の晩に、拾ったボタンは
指先に沁み、心に沁みた。

A Moonlit Button
dropped on my Paw, and
It deeply inspired Me.

月夜の晩に、拾ったボタンは
どうしてそれが、捨てられようか？

A Moonlit Button,
I can never throw this away.
