In a reminiscing mood

Let me show you Mt.Maya in Kobe
then and now .

To see the night views of Kobe city from the top of the mountain,
we climbed up Mt.Maya / 摩耶山 by cable car and rope way.

These are one-time cable car and rope way.

Present

We had made the accommodations at the Hotel of Mt.Maya top.

Recently, I spent the afternoon reading a novel and
thinking of Tanizaki's years when he was writing in Kobe.

The novel was written in 1936.
作品文中より引用 / quote a few verses from his novel )

Beyond them could be seen the peaks of Mt.Maya and Rokko.
It was a very different view from the one upstairs in Ashiya,

in the old days
On the broad, pitch-black flanks of Mt.Maya, the lights of the cable car had long since been extinguished ,
but some light could be seen in the hotel* perched on the summit.

in the old days

Present MAYA KANKO HOTEL decayed.

Indeed, she had heard that Rokko was far colder than Ashiya in winter, with the winds blowing straight down from the mountains. Even now, in October, the night were quite cold, so although the two towns were located in the same general area between Osaka and Kobe, Shinako felt as if she had come to some distant mountain country.

Present Ashiya / Rokko Island

one-time night viewing style from the Hotel.

It's my night view shooting of Kobe city
from Hotel de Maya in severely cold day.

  1. This was such fun to see. We've never been to Kobe, but now I would really like to see it myself. We plan to visit Japan next year to see some onsen and places that Sakamoto, Ryoma was at.

    To Kay
I wonder if you would plan to visit the Onsen in Kagoshima prefecture. Have a nice trip!
